[Sigia-l] Recommended tool for documenting requirements?

I'm a tech writer and a requirements analyst. Call this crazy, but I always
thought that using a help authoring tool such as RoboHelp or AuthorIt would be
handy because:
- You can build books in any way that you like
- You can number things any way that you like
- You can make numerous kinds of output (including as a CHM which I think
developers might like especially if you made it look like the MSDN which, for
some reason, seems to be "terrific".)
- You can tag things in and out, use variables, create revisions, track history,
etc.
- It's easier to read than excel and it's probably easier to work with than word
(i.e. no scrolling through a long document, no numbered list problems, etc.)
People didn't usually like my idea because "it's a tool for documentation, not
for specs. let's use a tool for specs!"
BUT, we always talk about using a tool that meets your business needs, not
buying a tool and fitting your work into its structure. I'm sure there would be
some quirks, as with any software.
