Absolutely. A lot of the imaging, pattern recognition software out there are
amazingly accurate, at a level humans can't begin to compete with.
A human can detect a few people he knows out of a crowd pretty well. A
computer system can spot an infinite number of people out of an infinite
size crowd pretty much in real-time.

Computers can simulate aging or weight gain, detect walking cadence, measure
body temperature, voice timbre, etc. Thus combine multiple internal/external
factors simultaneously to make enhanced judgments. The new systems to be
placed in New York subways, for example, spot and track inanimate objects
left on platforms, do a statistical analysis of the likelihood of objects
being where they are spotted, compare them to know shapes, back test for
similar presence on the same spot over time, etc. They can tap into large
DBs for insight, comparison and validation.
Technology marches on. :-)
