Punchcut (http://www.punchcut.com), a San Francisco-based interface
design firm specializing in web, software and mobile applications, is
looking for a UE/ID Intern. This is a paid position. The job
description follows:

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Punchcut is looking for a User Experience/Interaction Design Intern to
join our User Experience team. The UE/ID Intern should have a strong
understanding of the user-centered design process and be equally
comfortable working independently and alongside other design team
members. Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must,
along with solid visual presentation skills. The ideal candidate
should feel comfortable working in a fast-paced creative environment!

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understand project requirements and promote user-centered design at
all phases of the development process
- Review and assess existing web sites or web-based applications with
respect to common usability principles and best practices and provide
actionable recommendations for improvements leading to a more usable,
useful and desirable user experience
- Create personas, scenarios, taxonomies, workflows, site maps and
schematics describing page-level templates and components
Work with visual designers and developers to evaluate the feasibility
of proposed solutions
- Write user interface specifications that capture proposed designs in detail
- Assist senior members of the UE team as needed

QUALIFICATIONS
- 1-3 years of industry or equivalent academic experience designing
usable interfaces for web sites and web-based applications, software
products and/or mobile applications
- Education in Human Computer Interaction, Design, Human Factors or
ability to display formal understanding of design and HCI theory and
practice
- Understanding of technologies used to build web-based solutions (HTML,
DHTML, Javascript, Flash, etc.)
- Working experience with appropriate design tools including Visio,
OmniGraffle,
Illustrator, Photoshop, etc. as they relate to documenting site
architecture, navigation, interaction flows, page-level feature and
functionality
- Excellent communication skills: written and verbal

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Visual design &/or coding skills a plus
- Experience in mobile space a plus
- Experience performing user research, including developing usability
test plans, moderating tests and analyzing results, a plus
