Some possible reasons:

You're a collector. Your collection is central to your life,
cataloguing doesn't seem like a waste of time.

Insurance purposes. Lots of people catalogue their important
possessions for this reason. 
  
Small organization that needs to catalogue their books, or CDs or
whatever. Take the book problem. Even small-scale OPACs are overkill
because they assume AACR2, DDC, and LCC, which aren't important in
many situations. (not to mention that most of them are overpriced
and hard to use).

Calming your inner anal-rententive-organization-freak (i.e., your
inner librarian). If your socks are neatly stacked like cords of
wood, why not give your CD collection the cataloguing treatment?
