DESCRIPTION:
Thomson Legal & Regulatory (TLR) is a leading provider of integrated
information solutions to legal, tax, accounting, intellectual property,
compliance, business and government professionals around the world. 
 
Thomson West, a division of TLR, is seeking a Sr. Ontology Specialist
who specializes in taxonomy development and maintenance to join the
Ontology team.   This individual will manage the development and
maintenance of 2 taxonomies as well as numerous mapping files.  This
position has the potential to manage the Ontology Editorial group
consisting of Classification Model Developers and taxonomy specialists.

 
Responsibilities
* Define, develop and maintain a user taxonomy that optimizes search and
retrieval, navigation and browsing capabilities for TLR Business
Information and News products.  
* Continually augment and refine content, structure and format of
taxonomy to meet existing and emerging customer needs.
* Oversee development of taxonomy used for classification of content.
* Develop and maintain numerous mapping files.
* Manage implementation of thesaurus/ontology management software
program.
* Ensure that data integrity issues are identified and proactively
addressed.
* Work with QA Specialist to develop and manage QA processes for
taxonomies, mappings, authority files and classification and extraction
data.  
* Design and implement automatic feedback loops using classification,
extraction and user data results to determine optimal changes to
taxonomy development and structure. 
* Proactively identify and resolve data integrity issues.
* Work with Product Development, Engineering, Development and Editorial
experts to ensure that assets are compatible with existing products and
technology.     
* Ensure work and projects are aligned with business and product
priorities.
* Provide general Ontology assistance to Thomson West as required. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Master's degree in Information Science required.
* Minimum 5 years experience working with
taxonomies/ontologies/authorities.
* Minimum 3 years Project Management experience.
* Strong management capabilities.
* Highly knowledgeable of automated classification and extraction
processes.
* Experience using a variety of thesauri/ontology management tools.
* Extensive experience with online database searching.  Ability to form
complex Boolean queries.
* Familiar with XML, DTD development and data warehousing principles.
* Ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical
coworkers.
* Knowledge of content and data architectures and their relationship to
Information Architecture and Knowledge Management practices.
* Extremely detail oriented.
