[Sigia-l] Usability of descriptions and excerpts in search results

I'm interested in research or experience regarding the efficacy of
page descriptions and/or excerpts in search results. (Most search
engines list results with a title followed by a brief description or
excerpt.)

I'm also interested in any experience or research on the efficacy of
highlighting search terms on results pages.

Google's being a difficult mistress so any links, pointers, or stories
from the front are are appreciated.
