Hi

I’m advising a client against requiring users to create accounts simply to
sign up for email alerts.

I’ve discussed the benefit of building up a trusted relationship before
putting up a bar to entry. I’m recommending they let users simply provide
email address and subscribe to an e-alert; invite them to create an account
but don’t require it.

Client wants quantifiable data on drop-off in usage if accounts are
required. I’d appreciate pointers to any data. Best thing I’ve found so far
in a search of the archives and google Web search is a 1999 Nielsen Alert
Box

I’m on the digest. Please reply to me directly. Thanks - Kathleen
