Well, there are examples where that is not the case.

where the design helped bad content succeed.

of course there are also examples where good content was ruined by bad design.

it is all a balancing act and only a few extreme examples where
without balance there is success.
eBay as already noted is not worth our time discussing as it is not
the norm that most of us work with every day.
