Only if you're techno-illiterate.

I'm having trouble believing that anyone would equate pattern recognition with context analysis. Pattern recognition can feed into but is not context analysis.

Let's start with pattern and context. I will admit that a given context can only be considered a context by virtue of the coherent and consistent patterns chosen to define it. However context (at least when we're dealing with people) necessarily implies a certain subjective interpretation of these patterns and experiences to derive some sort of meaning. The patterns are only a means to an end, they help define the context.

Even more troublesome is your equation of recognition with analysis. Recognition is simple pattern matching, and occurs at the level of data (one reason why search tools can be so frustrating). Analysis, however, is all about interpretation, understanding, meaning, and transforms information into knowledge. Analysis is sort of like Schrödinger's cat, and beyond the capacities of any piece of software.

Collecting higher mountains of even finer granules of data to recognize even more sophisticated patterns still remains a data level activity. What does the breathing/voice/speech/temperature mean? The data while collected is entirely inert until we (not software) can make meaning of it. What you've described is data collection, not even recognition, let alone meaningful analysis.

I'm not sure what your laser speckle example intends to demonstrate, but it was very interesting, and may apply to some projects I'm working on. Thanks for the education.

Cause you're a kind hearted soul who is adequately compensated by the genuine thanks of his peers?
