[Sigia-l] is bad design a choice?

We were talkin' about eBay and "ghetto" design last night.
While I agree that going to the extent of Tiffany's is not what makes
sense here. Following eBay's lead is well a bit ... hmmm? suspicious.

If I was eBay and had 90% of the market share of my target and could
only grow, then maybe I would have to wonder what a design expense
would gain me. Personally, I think it would allow them to grow into
new markets that they haven't explored yet. (i.e. eBay scares the
bejeebuz out of me and so I refuse to use it.)

MySpace will have a similar problem compared to similar services. Ya
see, it is in a competitive market, so if I have the choice of MySpace
or Yahoo 360 (pick another one), I'll choose the one that feels right
w/ a bigger well known brand.

So while eBay is nice to reference, it is an orange in a sea of apples.
