On a related subject, does anyone know of any resources or have any
stories about trying to make web-based software applications and/or rich
internet applications comply with accessibility guidelines?
I am currently working on a medical application aimed at a wide range of
healthcare staff (not just doctors). Time is of the essence at the point
of care and even in the daily workflow. In the UK, the disability
Discrimination Act does not specify which guidelines need to be applied
for applications as opposed to web content. My intention is to engage
representative users to assess what level of accessibility needs to be
implemented.
I am interested in hearing from anyone who is facing or has faced a
similar problem. What approach did you take? What worked well/not? What
aspects of and how did your IA help you? Which accessibility guidelines
have you used in this kind of scenario? How did you balance providing
more advanced users with richer functionality, without stripping back
functionality to make the application more accessible?
I will gladly summarise responses for the group :-)
Many thanks,
Vanessa
