Our local IA group in the Washington, DC area (DCIA) has been running a
bi-monthly book group for two years now, under the stewardship of Dan Brown.
It's a great excuse to get together and talk. Just as in regular book
clubs, some people read the books and some don't - it's okay either way.
Our books have included Jesse's "The Elements of User Experience," Stewart
Brand's "How Buildings Learn," Herge's "TinTin" series, etc etc. 'Till now
it's been held in a public bookstore/coffee shop, so we sometimes get
interesting walk-ins joining the dicussion (like that woman with the teddy
bear...). Overall, the book group idea has been a steady success, and I
encourage others to try it.

... I was wondering is it's typical for people to read work based
books as you would in a normal book club? At work my reading tends to be
task orientated - Having said that though I do tend to read overview books
such as the Fogg book in that fashion.
