[Sigia-l] Any wiki experts out there?

I've noticed that wiki markup is not as standard as I thought it might (and
should) be.  It seems as though there are as many markup (syntax) schemes as
there are wikis.  Is there a drift towards standarization (or away from it)?
If so... what's going on with wiki syntax?  Or is the idea of
"standardization" anti-wiki to begin with?

Any links, info, or experience you could point me to would be helpful.
