(hey now, i'm the psycholinguist son of an art history professor! ;P )

This is exactly what i was curious about. i feel like i've stumbled
upon IA prior to it being formed as a truely cohesive field (and thus
i couldn't have gotten a degree in it if i had wanted to [although i
suppose i could go get one now]), but also as if i've kind of missed
the boat on getting in (since i have no experience as an IA, or as any
of the other sorts of titles that people around here have). Anyway,
as a result i'm interested in how the various waves of people who have
these titles ended up with them and more importantly how their
experiences differ depending on factors such as how long they've been
in this sort of work.

Fascinated and appreciatvely,

-T
