Hi,
I mentioned this in a prior post. Here is the registration and information
about the webinars on taxonomy management. (There is no cost) These are
educational and not product pitches. (There'll likely be a very short
"commercial" from the sponsors - Schemalogic and NetNumina.)

Here are the outlines for sessions:
Taxonomy and Metadata Jump Start Series
This series of webinars moves attendees through:
- Core business models and justification for unifying taxonomic and
structural metadata
- A step-by-step process for deriving taxonomies and metadata standards
- Advanced thesaurus management
- Technical integration of standards and terms across systems using XML and
Web Services.
We are keeping topics focused and allowing for plenty of discussion in these
1 hr 15 minute sessions. (45 minutes for the talk and 30 minutes for
discussion)
Webinar 1- The Basics - Feb 11, 2:00 EST
This intro level presentation covers business reasons and justifications for
applying a structure and methodology to metadata management. We begin with
basic models and explain concepts in non technical language. This session
is ideal for business decision makers but also for anyone who wants a simple
way to communicate the message to a larger audience.
- Making the business case
- Categorization versus search
- Metadata standards
- Ontologies and taxonomies
- Laying out a Roadmap
Webinar 2- Intermediate Topics - Feb 18, 2:00 EST
After the basics, we will walk through the step-by-step process for deriving
and applying systems for classification. This session will help content
managers, developers, metadata architects, project managers and others
involved in metadata standards begin the process of developing taxonomies.
We will also cover how structured meta data differs from taxonomic meta
data.
- Deriving a taxonomy
- Process steps
- Mapping user scenarios
- Integrating taxonomy and navigation
- Validation and refinement
Webinar 3- Advanced Taxonomy Management - Feb 18, 2:00 EST
Now is time for the fun part. After initial derivation of classification
systems, organizations will find that their different departments have
different needs. Taxonomies tend to diverge as they are applied. How can
this be reconciled? What are the governance models that make sense? These
issues and more will be explored in this session.
- Thesaurus management
- Multiple taxonomies and polyhierarchies
- Impact analysis and workflow rules
- Governance models
Webinar 4- Technical Integration - Mar 8, 2:00 EST
In many organizations, having derived the system for classification is half
the battle. Instead of passing around spreadsheets and publishing terms in
a thesaurus, taxonomies can be deeply integrated into applications and
processes using XML and web services. This deep dive gets into the details
of technical architecture and gives attendees an overview of various
approaches
- Metadata and XML
- Exposing taxonomic terms through web services
- The role of XST, XSD's, DTD's XLST's
- WSDL's and UDDI
- Search engine integration
- Example code
