Apple's Setup Assistant when you first turn on your new product and the
Airport Setup Assistants are good examples - few steps, simple,
straightforward, and the ability to get out easily if needed.

On the flip side, Microsoft's Wizard for setting up an internet
connection or adding a printer are poor examples - way too many steps
and they seem to make it impossible to get to any "advanced" mode or
get out of the wizard.

Cheers!

In theory, theory and practice are the same.
In practice, they are not.
