Giving us all something to chew on as one year ends and a new one
begins, Paul Graham in his essay on Good and Bad Procrastination
writes:
"In his famous essay You and Your Research (which I recommend to
anyone ambitious, no matter what they're working on), Richard Hamming
suggests that you ask yourself three questions:
1. What are the most important problems in your field?
2. Are you working on one of them?
3. Why not?"
Hamming's lengthy and thought-provoking speech now has me wondering
what are the most important problems in our field? Are they are as
large, significant or identifiable as those in mathmatics, physics or
biology?
