You are absolutely right.
The Book as we know it, in terms of how it's put together, marketed, stored,
distributed and consumed, has a certain business logic to it. And a lot of
that is wrapped around its physicality and permanency.
Computer shatters a lot of those conventions to the core. How a body of
electronic data/info/material is put together, marketed, stored, distributed
and consumed is significantly different.
For starters, the fundamental notion of a "page" is obsolete. Presentation
permanency is out the door. Currency is vastly different. And so on.
For largely business reasons the eBook, as we have it today, simply ignores
that the two above are vastly different media. It has failed so far and is
doomed to failure in its present form.
