K12 Information Architect

K12, Inc. – a leading provider of rich, stimulating educational
environments for students from kindergarten to high school – is looking
for a talented, inspired Information Architect to join it’s growing
creative team that designs the digital user experience of business and
learning systems.

As a part of our team, you would create experiences via a user-centered
process that includes the research and development of goal and task
models, usage scenarios & patterns, and elegant solutions for interaction,
navigation, and labelling.  Additionally, you’d play a critical role in
crafting broader interaction models between our digital products, K12
internal staff, teachers and principals of it’s schools, and – most
importantly – our students.

Responsibilities
--------------------------------
• Employ a user-centered methodology to create a functional vision and
documented artifacts to meet the needs of both product users and
developers.
• Design product functionality, navigation flows, site architecture plans,
wireframes, user interface design, and functional specifications for the
presentation layer.
• Coordinate regularly with teammates on the creative team to ensure
product remains true to the user experience design throughout the product
development life cycle.
• Communicate solutions and progress to business owners, creative
directors and managers, usability engineering, project management, and
software engineering teams.
• Collaborate with visual designers and other information architects on
large initiatives.

Qualifications
--------------------------------
• Ability to communicate effectively with members of a diverse
multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to keep the big picture, the vision, in mind with attending to
the details required for organization structure and day-to-day problem
solving.
• Must be highly creative, technically savvy, self-motivated, conceptual
thinker.
• Extensive understanding of innovative graphical user interface design,
information design, interaction design, and in particular, the design of
complex frameworks for dynamic, database-driven content.
• Solid understanding of and experience designing for presentation layer
technologies including XHTML/CSS/JS and Flash.
• Excellent written, oral and diagrammatic communication skills.
• Highly desirable: Experience with design for ecommerce, search systems,
inventory management, or content management systems.

Education
--------------------------------
BA in human-computer interactions, product design or related fields.

Work Experience
--------------------------------
Five plus years experience in one or more of the following areas:
information architecutre, information design, interaction design, user
interface design, or software application design.

Technical Skills
--------------------------------
Adept with relevant design and information flow software including Visio,
Illustrator, Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver, HTML development.

Requirements
--------------------------------
• Must show work samples via online or hardcopy portfolio.
• Be prepared to demonstrate the processes and problem solving techniques
you’ve personally employed to design each online experience.
