In short, being somewhat persistant with asking all the wrong
questions to clients have always been a trademark of why I got more
clients. There are times when the client needs to be challenged, and
the key is of course how you do it. Being a people-person helps, being
backed up by hard facts helps (which is why 'best-practice' is so
sought after, I reckon), or having a track-record of told-you-so's
helps.

As with everything; it depends. And "there are times when the client
needs to be challenged" is my personal mantra. There are bucketloads
of more drone-prone consultants and companies out there who do
whatever says in the contract.
