my ex-wife used to as "why" a lot.

by this i mean that i would answer her question, and then she would  
simply say "why"

this would cycle endlessly.

this was a form of trolling, and is similar to a lot of discussions  
that happen on the list.

of course, it can also be a matter of perspective. the last  
discussion that bugged me went to over 80 messages, NOT including  
Ziya's messages (I just dump 'em, as I tend to find the signal to  
noise ratio a bit out of whack. surprisingly, it has little impact on  
my enjoyment of the list.)

i just think it's important to realize that trolling doesn't have to  
include a blatant invitation for aggressive comments, it can involve  
gentler forms of goading people's sensitivities.
