Jean,
I work for a small company whose User Interface group is currently 5 
people strong, and 2.5 of us are IAs. We do not have the luxury or the 
need for a full-time taxonomist. Because we lack this resource, any 
taxonomy and metadata work falls on an IA. My manager (the .5 of our 2.5 
IAs) and I have been trying to become "subject matter experts" in the 
area of taxonomy creation, as this is not an area in which either of us 
have been formally trained. So far, so good, but I think we still have a 
lot to learn.
