I think the question that many organizations are addressing today is 'when to
present the login' function.   Do you present it at the entry point to the
website, when the user is searching for content, or when the user is about to
display content.   The hidden question here is whether content is accessible
from your website even if it is not obviously published to the website.   You
have to answer this question before you can grapple with the login issues.
