I agree with you. I think this assumption was very valid in some of the 
redesign work I've done, reason why I like the listening lab proposition. 
But other than in this redesign-a-broken-product scenario, a script 
validated by design use cases is definitely a more focused approach to the 
user research (focus group or whatever one might call it).
