Maybe we are thinking about this problem incorrectly.

Aren't we just taking a relational database problem and blowing it out
of proportion?

Isn't all this just about taking one slice of a database table and
turning it on a different axis? So long as you can do the "flip" of
the data, the rest should just come across fine.

This does however require that your relationships are not hardcoded
and that they can be derived and re-derived based on path and
projected intent (also based on path).

seems limple enough to me. :)
