The entire 37Signals book is really useful and covers many of the subjects
you are looking for. There are full chapters on input error display, among
others. I can't recommend it enough. Some other site you may want to have

I have a lot of experience with form validation. Typically I do both
client-side and server-side validation. One of the best client-side
