Information Designer
--------------------
The Information Designer (ID) works with Business Analysts, Art Directors,
Usability Engineers, and Technical Designers (HTML / JSP developers) to
define the user experience for our partners' webstores.
The ID is responsible for:
- Articulating the goals and expectations of the customer, and serving as
their advocate throughout the design process
- Devising solutions that balance user goals and business goals while
fitting within the constraints of brand, time, budget, and technology
- Ensuring clarity, consistency, and brand-appropriateness in customer
messaging (including labels, instructional text, and help copy)
- Documenting solutions such that the output is as clear and usable as the
solutions themselves
- Maintaining archives of all text, copy and information templates
- Participating throughout a project's quality assurance cycle to ensure
that the final product meets the expectations of the original project
requirements and wireframes
- Identifying weaknesses in current functionality and creating solutions
that better serve the customer
- Staying abreast of shifts in industry standards and online customer
expectations through research and trade publications
Deliverables include:
- User scenarios
- Detailed user personas
- User analytics (including clickpath analyses)
- Use cases (with the Business Analyst)
- Page-type definitions (with the Business Analyst)
- Wireframes (both low and high-fidelity)
- Interaction design documents (page flows, annotated wireframes)
- Taxonomies
- Style guides
Requirements
-------------
- Bachelors in a design discipline, Technical Writing, Human Factors,
Library Science, or an equivalent field
- 1-3 years as an IA or Interaction Designer for Internet design and
development
- Conceptual understanding of dynamic content delivery systems, particularly
templates and workflow
- Working knowledge of web development technologies, including JSP,
Javascript, XML
- Expertise using Microsoft Office products; Visio, Illustrator, or
Omnigraffle; Photoshop; HTML. Knowledge of UML a plus
- Organized, self-directed, efficient and able to manage complex projects in
a timely manner
- Superior language skills, both written and verbal
- Thrive in a fast paced, constantly changing, quick-turn-around environment
- Deep understanding of usability and industry best practices, specifically
as they relate to ecommerce design
- Fascination with user data, and the ability to translate data into
solutions
- Expert conflict resolution skills, particularly in negotating win-win
solutions with stakeholders
- Professional experience collaborating with design and development teams on
large-scale projects
- Collaborative working style, respectful of other perspectives and ego-less
where necessary
- Focused on getting the best solution rather than your solution
- The ability to learn from mistakes and willingness to revisit past
solutions for further improvements
- A portfolio that demonstrates the depth and breadth of your experience

Sr. Copy Editor
---------------
The Sr. Copy Editor works with Information Designers, Business Analysts, Art
Directors, Usability Engineers, and Technical Designers to create, edit and
manage copy for projects, customer communication, online advertisements,
website refreshes, special projects, style guides, procedural documentation
and other copy assignments as necessary.
The Sr. Copy Editor is responsible for:
Writing, editing and proofreading documents for diverse audiences:
- Users: sales / ad copy for websites, print, e-mails, and special
promotions, order-related communications, customer service communications,
error messages, instructional copy, online help content
- Clients: deliverables and sales presentations, marketing copy, mailers,
in-store posters
- Employees: style guides and other internal documents
Maintaining GSI's repository of online help content
Deliverables include:
- Instructional text and help copy for large eCommerce webstores
- Editorial best practices and editorial style guides for a wide variety of
- Internet retailers
- Project copy for new product development cycles
- Marketing copy for weekly website changes pertaining to "hot" products,
seasonal promotions, sales, weekly circulars and mailers
Requirements
--------------
- Bachelors degree in Technical Writing, English, Business, Marketing, or
Communications
- 2-4 years experience authoring and editing copy for high-traffic Web sites
or applications
- Demonstrated mastery of the basic tenets of (and techniques for) writing
for the Web
- Ability to recognize, write, edit and proofread different styles of
content including sales, technical, instructional and educational
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; some HTML and XML
preferred
- Familiarity with the use of demographics, brand identity and user research
- Organized, self-directed, efficient and able to juggle multiple shifting
priorities
- Superior language skills, both written and verbal
- Thrive in a fast paced, deadline-driven, quick-turn-around environment
- Must be able to work autonomously when necessary
- Compelling commitment to clarity is desired
- Extraordinary eye for detail and editorial accuracy is desired
- Passion for understanding how online users think, and for communicating to
them in language that helps them achieve their goals is desired
- Fascination with user-centered design and the usability engineering
practices that support it

jump from writing marketing copy to error messages
- Extremely organized; able to manage large archives of content, multiple
projects simultaneously
