Hi Karl,
> But that hardly excuses what often happens here...
Maybe we could talk about particular examples.
I'm thinking that the cases that people may be thinking of are not
interpreted the same.
For example, the note
http://www.info-arch.org/lists/sigia-l/0303/0474.html
could be at cross-purposes to some, yet I find it to be refreshing, and
I can even imagine welcoming the comments if they were addressed to me
(I could be wrong :)
It seems refreshing to me as seeing the facets of thoughtful work or
the expression of experience, even if I do not dismiss metadata after
reading the note.
To say things with a bit more awareness, I'd not like for someone to
dismiss my writing. Yet certainly something differing with my point of
view is OK (even in my own mind).
It does seem to me that there's an issue of changing someone else's
financial prospects. If I were talking in the presence of bakers, I'd be
aware of the possible implications of my words about good bread. Yet in
the presence of *that* concept there are probably quite different views
about what the shared space of the list is for.
And I'm not saying that an author shouldn't announce their book or that
books about IA are not welcomed.
Have a nice day
