Paid inclusion is either an advantage you're paying a premium for (the user
loses) or it's not (the payer loses). Yahoo wouldn't be able to charge a
premium if the service did not generate an advantage for the payer. So Yahoo
is either providing the illusion of an advantage for the premium (the payer
loses) or is actually delivering it (the user loses). Business doesn't get
simpler than that.
My "worldview" includes such things journalists not paying for their
sources, especially without specific disclosure; financial analysts not
being beholden to their sell-side brethren; doctors not writing
prescriptions based on promotions/kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies;
politicians not voting based on contributions, etc.
I know it's old fashioned but it's called conflict of interest.
