Hi Thomas,
Funny you should hit on both Peter's definition of findability and
accesibility. I've been thinking a lot about this have come up with
two conclusions:
The definition of findability needs to be narrowed.
The definition of accessibility needs to be expanded.
Let me explain:
I may be able to "find" the other side of a raging river (in that I
know where it is), I just can't get to it (because I have no bridge
or other means of crossing the water).
Thus, it seems to me that navigation belongs more properly under the
heading of accessibility. I'm all for ADA 508, but navigation has to
work for ALL of us, including those folks who don't use screen
readers - so I'm suggesting a broader definition.
And with a narrower definition of findability (minus navigation), I
don't worry so much that it could be considered a subset of
usability. In fact, I'd be tempted to drop the hexagon for usability
entirely. Since both findable and accessible hold down much of the
usability fort, why not let "useful" take over the remaining duties?
Just a thought...
Cheers,
Eric
