Yes, parametric search is quite different conceptually from faceted
search/nav, although implementations may end up looking somewhat
similar.  

Just to be clear though: the topicmap data model has something called
"facets" but they are a very different concept from the facets we're
talking about here. Topicmaps out-of-the-box do not have the facets
concept (as we know it). (Which is not to say you can't create a topic
for the facet concept and start modeling from there. You can model
pretty much anything in topicmaps.)
