[Richard Law:] What good alternative names have you used to group somewhat random content or documents that are not wholly disparate?

At IBM, we started calling a wide variety of stuff "Resources". The distinction between "resources" and other content is basically that a resource is an information asset that is fully-formed and has meaning and value to the user. A summary, overview, abstract, etc. are not resources -- they're *about* resources. "Resources" is not analagous to "Miscellaneous", but it might help you get back to a more meaningful category.

Does your team do user engineering to come up with content categories?

HTH,
Ruth
