[Sigia-l] Transitioning into a user-centered role

I’m a practicing UI engineer getting my MS in Human Factors at Bentley College,
part-time. I am eager to start shifting my role at work to a more strategic,
usability/UCD focused role. However, mine is a company that has little
experience with UCD approaches, although our products certainly would benefit.

Our Product Management folks have started some ‘usability workshops’ which
occur at the *end* of the dev cycle (a little late). Better than nothing, for
sure, but I see opportunities here for baseline testing, more customer contact,
persona-building, rapid prototyping, style guides, best practices, etc.

I'd appreciate general advice on how best to promote (from within)
usability/UCD as a worthwhile endeavor that I begin to enact.
