I find myself doing that, when Google or Yahoo is set as the home page.  I
start up a browser window, don't really look, type fast and hit return.  By
the time I look up, I realise that the cursor was sitting in the search box,
not in the URL bar at the top.

It could just as easily be evidence of sophistication, but I hate making
generalisations about "Web users".
