Just thought I'd throw my .02 in here since it was such a hot topic...After
reading some discussion on right-hand navigation about a year or so ago I
tried to bring up the idea to 3 clients I had at the time.

Despite user testing or studies, people on all 3 teams had VIOLENT reactions
to even prototyping the idea. Sadly it seems that the top & left navigation
systems have won mindshare at least at the corporate level. There are so
many sites and web-applications now that use such a model that I think it's
become a standard.
