[Sigia-l] "Does Good Design Equal Dollars and Sense?"

Big companies have the resources to hire the best design firms, but
we also need good managers who can differentiate good design from bad
design. Otherwise it's just another wasted resource and more money down the
rat hole.
Case in point, I believe Apple has excelled because during it's best times
it has had a manager (CEO = Steve Jobs) who recognizes the value of good
design and executes well on it.
Good design is as simple an appropriate solution to a problem/challenge, and
not just an aesthetic treatment or surface application. It's a solution that
addresses the heart of a challenge. It's also a way to differentiate a
company and its offerings from the competition. Studies have shown that
people will pay more for a premium experience, and often that's part of a
better design.
