Listen: I said what I said about Information Architecture and I meant
it. What I keep hearing from others, however, is what they think about
me personally, or how they think they should be treated, or about what
they believe they have coming to them.

I HAVE to give you the bitter wake-up call that this list is not about
what you think you deserve or what you think you have coming to you.
This list is about Information Architecture. If you have something to
say about IA, SAY IT! I did. I always leave a lot to discuss, to follow
up on, to cultivate a genuine discussion of what Information
Architecture is, where it is heading, and what it can be. I ask that
everyone join in and do the same.

We need to be able to discuss any tensions that exist without the
difficulty of fragile personal egos creating needless disputes and
irritability -- and talk about IA. Challenging someone's view of the
thing we call Information Architecture -- no matter WHO that someone is
-- is why we are here!

So, please, address IA and not yourself or what you think you should
have coming to you. If you cannot discuss IA and instead get personally
'pissed off' or 'feel dirty' you should remove yourself to a unreal
place which can protect you and provide the safety you require. This
list has firmly planted a foundation of freedom of ideas and speech *on
the subject of IA* and I ask recent commenters to redirect their topics
toward that end.

Be Well, Derek
