each other)

"For instance, when you go into a library and ask for direction, the
librarian 'instructs/helps' you to alter *yourself* to adapt to the existing
system. They NEVER inquire (and are never taught) how to alter *their*
system to adaptability thru user-input."

This might be the case for directions but not for any sort of proper
reference interview. In these situations it is incumbent upon the librarian
to understand the user's perspective. Even the level of directions can alter
the existing systems if one takes into account recent studies on signage,
"product placement" (my apologizes to the purists), and developmentally
appropriate practices and procedures for facilitating emergent and extended
literacy programs.

Perhaps this is only my own youthful naivity but I do consider myself being
in the process of being properly trained to not only how to learn from the
user but how to take learn it from multiple methodological standpoints as it
pertains to research.
