: It's just that easy, right?
Yes, *I* think so, except when people do not share these same values. For
example, those that do not feel "managing the Stuff that is created by the
org to support those needs" is an IA role. I agree with what you wrote, but
a GUT seems mythical in our line of work, where diversity brings us so many
different kinds of professionals that consensus seems unattainable. At least
that is how discouraged I have been feeling with all the arguments used
discussing this theme.
Instead of speaking 'only to improve upon the silence'*, we seem to be
speaking for argumentation sake. I don't see arguments towards improvement,
towards a harmonious solution, towards a Grand Unified Theory as you
suggested. It may have started out like this but every topic we start to
discuss more deeply, loses momentum and direction. We end up nowhere; though
with tons of great ideas in our minds.
I bet your question will generate answers of the 'Should we discuss this?',
'I agree, period' and 'I disagree, period' kinds. It is the 'Dejá Vu
Information Architecture Loop'. I suppose it is just not THAT easy. We are
lacking continuity.
