I can't quite say. It is not purely about retrieval. Shape is used
to exploit perceptual abilities and help you understand the market
situation and trends in ways that a classified list of text would
not understand. However...those maps are still limited.
It's been a long time since I read the original paper about
treemaps (the idea that smartmoney is based on). I don't know how,
or even if, treemaps were described as being used for "knowledging"
activities.
So much to learn about...
