I think the fallacy here is to believe that architects wave a magic wand over a piece of paper then leave the room. The point is they are not tested in the same way because they themselves are the testing QA - they always work within the confines of the medium yet still find massive creative scope. The regulations and guidelines are solidly defined and if they did not work within them it would be picked up by the buildings project manager, surveyors, builders, etc...This is not to say they cannot get it wrong, but different values are attached.

(my first ever real job many many years ago was as a trainee surveyor so I've seen the process first hand...)

Taking another view, why is it that a Director can find his film cut to shreds by an editing authority that is not his, to produce a final cut he does not agree with?
