With 2D or 3D models, you can test for patterns in light, traffic, heating,
acoustic, stress, etc., across another vector like time. A lot of these have
been codified in local or national regs, so you can think of them as
pre-tested (virtual) building 'components'.

However, there's an important point here: A building is not a sum of
building code dictations or test patterns. Like anything else that is
designed, it's the end result of compromise. There's no substitute for the
experience, wisdom, taste and sensibilities of the architect.
