[Sigia-l] Relationship between Search and Browse

I am a huge fan of faceted metadata search/browse integration, a la
Marti Hearst. I think multidimensional taxonomies are the only way
to properly represent content, there is never a single right way to
address user needs.

Faceted metadata search is easiest to implement when the attributes
are already there, such as catalog databases, otherwise there's a big
faceted classification hurdle to get over. The results are amazingly
usable. I think this fulfills your criteria of narrowing functions
to mirror content structure, without limiting the narrowing to a
single direction.

My thinking on this is at
<http://www.searchtools.com/info/facted-metadata.html>, please let me
know if you have other good examples or questions.
