Reverse engineer it:

1) forget about what everybody else does; focus on your own needs
2) concentrate on the top 5 (at most) things you think you do/did well
3) illustrate what, why and how you did them in the most concise way
4) if you can't explain what you did and how in at most a graf or two,
try again and again
5) always indicate why/how what you did can help a prospective client
6) in presenting, isolate and highlight each example with enough space
around
7) don't use tiny thumbnails and/or small screenshots
8)    concentrate on the single most goal that you have: selling yourself;
nothing else should get in the way
9) don't provide too many details on each project; ask the prospective
client to contact you for more info, which is what you ultimately want
10) if you are soliciting multiple levels of access (ie, C-level, PM-level,
etc) consider having slightly customized versions on different tracks
11) don't be afraid of highlighting what may be an 'obvious' case; often
it's difficult to find people who do the obvious well enough
12) if you're going to label yourself, do get permission from the
Definition Authority.
