That's a good way to encourage users to provide a valid email address. However, if the user made a typo during registration, s/he will never receive that 'email with a link' and the sponsor will have no way of contacting the user. Lost forever...
Some of the registration are just for accessing promotional mini-sites that don't really require registration, let along email address, from the users' standpoint. It's solely sponsor's desire to capture visitors' information for future communication purposes. In this case, leaving a site to get that email message then return is very interruptive.
The account number is for scheduled automatic payment purpose. We don't link to the banks in real time, instead, the entered data is batched and sent to the banks nightly. During application, only the routing (ABA) numbers are validated (for format) but not account numbers. Manual intervention, calling the customer, is needed to handle account number errors and that's what my client try to prevent/reduce. However, I am not sure if re-entering the account number is the solution.
Thanks for the input.
