Indeed. Though the only time I allow myself such an indulgence is when I
have started on a work project as a recreational project. Once it becomes
boring then its no longer something I'm going to do outside of work hours.
It'll still get done, but I'll get paid for it :)

A lesser, though more common, side of this is the tendency to pass something
on to a less capable programmer once it becomes boring. To some extent this
should be done as part of the general process of both getting the most out
of each person's skills and maintaining morale. But just when to pass
something "down" or "up" is a tricky question.
