I read this a few years ago

Collective Intelligence by Pierre Levy. It discusses collective, virtual
actions as well, in a very french, post-modern, turgid sort of way. But it
is really worth reading to get a very "holistic" perspective on the
potential disruptive applications of decentralized, commodified, knowledge
transferrence technologies. It almost reads like a manifesto for
grass-roots, real time democracy, but the authors zest, and zeal for his
topic is almost contagious so it is fun to read as well.
