: As a participant, why do I (have to) believe you, when
: you say you're not testing me? I may just nod my head,
: but you'll never know what I really think. The condition
: for the 'natural, relaxed environment' may have been
: created (or destroyed) long before you get to the "We're
: not testing you" phrase.

I agree 100%, that is why the focus should not be wether one is testing or
not the individual, but the product, making the individual aware of their
ROLE in the process.

We should not need to say "you are not being tested", ever. If that is not
obvious to the tester upfront, we'll fall in the 'unknown' place of "do they
feel confortable or not?" and we just cannot tell with accuracy, even
thought there ARE that many ways (200+) to check it as mentioned in a
previous post. None are 100% accurate (anybody please correct me if I am
wrong), so, by focusing on the REAL problem (the product tested and the
tester's role), we can make better tests with lesser chance of problems
generated by that 'reverse stimulus'.
