Just wanted to drop you guys a line on DUX2003.
Last night was the opening affair with a "fireside chat" format hosted
by Bill Buxton and Mitch Kapor. During the opening discussion, Mitch
brought up the need for a User Experience program by design and not by
CS. From his perspective, if a university tries to do a UX program from
within CS, then it will suffer the anti-body syndrome. Much like how an
anti-body attacks and kills a disease, CS will react to UX, treating it
like a disease and killing it off, or assimilating it.
This morning, Friday's, discussions focused on UX with several case
studies (including Tim Brooke from Intel presenting his work on the
handheld at the vineyard).
And right now, Daniel Makoski, from Texture Media is presenting a case
study about Wells Fargo and how they used card sorting (contextual card
sorts) to guide the process.
Later today, John Pruit & Jonathoan Grudin, will be presenting on the
use of Personas.
Stay tuned, I'll have pictures later.
Cheers!

In theory, theory and practice are the same,
but in practice, they're not.
