The simplest difference is that metadata attached to the data is from the
owner. And there's only one owner. With independent filters there's
competition. Amazon or Epinion are not the only sources of filtering on the
topics they cover. The description element of an RSS feed from a book
publisher would never say that an upcoming book is "lacking in depth, poorly
edited, with no plot, etc." An Amazon (user) review may very well say that
and a B&N review may contradict that. Imagine food or health care products
had no outside regulation as to their metadata.
